Summer With a Purpose- Week Three

I had many different things going on this week so I didn't have as much time for all the things on my list, but I was able to work on a few things that might be considered "productive".  (To learn more about "Summer with a Purpose", click HERE.)

{1}Cleaning: This week I've made myself quite useful in the "cleaning area".  I've cleaned kitchen counters, swept and mopped the floor, vacuumed, washed windows, and did a little dusting too.  :D

{2}Cooking: I made several different things in the kitchen, one of which was some "Chickpea Salad".  You can find the recipe HERE.  We just love this during the summer for lunch or a side dish for supper.

{3}Book Reading: I started reading "Just Jane" this week and so far it's very good.  Next on my reading list is "Homemaking by J.R. Miller".  I've heard great things about that book and I can't wait to read it for myself!  I just love reading books in the summer, don't you?

{4}Crafts: On Wednesday, my family and I went down to the beach for the day (I'll post pictures soon) and while we were there my cousin, Caroline, taught me how to make a hemp bracelet.  I had so much fun making it and so I bought some more hemp at the store last night.  I might try to do a tutorial on how to make one sometime.  Just let me know if you would like to learn how. :D

{5}Finding the Deals/Shopping: Tonight, Mom, Katie, and I went into town to do some shopping.  Mom had been in town earlier today and while she was out, she had gone by JCPenney.  It turns out that they were having some great deals on their clearance dresses.  She found an $80.00 dress and got it for $20.00!!  They were having a huge 60-70% off sale.  Since we never can find some decent, modest, and pretty dresses without paying a lot on them, we decided that we would go back and try to find some for ourselves.  We need some dresses for a wedding we've been invited to in October and we ended up both finding two very pretty dresses that would work.  Here are the ones that I found...
The pink and brown one was $60.00 and I got it for $11.97 and then the green and white one was $70.00 and I got that one for $17.99.  :D

...and these are the dresses that Katie (my older sister) found...

The brown and green polka dot dress was $70.00 and she got it for $13.97 and then the brown, black, and white dress was $60.00 and she got that one for only $17.99.  I just love finding the bargains while shopping!  If you have time this weekend, I would definitely go to your JCPenney's and see if they're having the same sale at your store. You may find some deals like we did. :D

I hope that everyone had a very productive week!  Have a wonderful weekend and a happy 4th of July!

Many Blessings,

  1. That was certainly a worthwhile shopping trip. What beautiful dresses! I agree that it can be so hard (nearly impossible) to find modest (and affordable) dresses at mainstream stores, but these are so feminine and the prices are great! Now, I think I might need to go to JCP today. Sigh. :)

Oh, and love the artistic display of the photos. I like how you included close up shots of each dresses' fabric.

    Thanks for sharing.

Many Blessings and Have a Happy 4th of July Weekend.

  7. Your week has been very busy, Emily!

J.R. Miller's book, 'Homemaking', is one of my all time favorites. He offers such practical insight on family relationships and family life. I think you will enjoy the book!

    Blessings to you ~

  8. I haven't finish "Homemaking" (or should I say, "The Family") quite yet, but what I've read, I've loved!

And those dresses are adorable! Great prices too! I think the green one is my favorite :)
