Colorful and Healthy Breakfast Quiche

This past week I made a very colorful and healthy breakfast. We haven't had quiche in awhile and so I made one with onions, red bell pepper, and broccoli. It was delicious! :)

Colorful and Healthy Breakfast Quiche

  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup onions
  • 1/2 red bell pepper
  • 1/3 broccoli
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake pie shell for 10 minutes. Combine ingredients and mix well. Pour into pie shell. Cook for 30-40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

This recipe is worth every bit of your effort!! The flavor is amazing and wow... this is definitely the best quiche recipe that we've had in awhile.

Andrew's Blog--Weekly Journal

Andrew wanted me to let you all know about a new weekly journal that he has made on his blog.  He noticed that there was a weekly journal for girls and so he made one for boys. The journal is posted every Monday and you just answer the questions. Andrew also wanted me to ask you if you would pass the information along to your brothers. Visit the The Gentlemen`s Weekly Journal page HERE.

I hope you're all staying warm! :D

Temptations at the Library-Novels

By Daniel Ridgway Knight and is courtesy of Google images.

When you go in a library and everywhere you look you see novels of romance, it's hard to not to be sucked into reading them, but reading romantic novels can be really dangerous. Even when they don't introduce men as dashing and perfect companions who anticipate the character's every wish and desire, they present the reader's with an example or story of different relationships which are not realistic and are unhealthy, while at the same time the author writes in a way that makes us desire these "dream relationships" It's not a very good combination.

The novels talk about "love at first sight", the kind of "love" which encourages the readers of a bad decision-making based on the appearance of a suitor instead of the reality or proven character of a curtain person. This "love" is way too common in the Christian circle today and I can't tell you how many times I've heard of someone in this world say or write "So and so broke up" or "so and so are together now". It's the norm nowadays and I don't believe that is God's way for a man and a woman that are married. It's wrong!

Romantic novels often leave out the "tough times" of relationships, so they make you dream of a perfect marriage and it doesn't prepare you for the "tough times" later down the road when you are married. Instead, in romantic novels we read sentences like: "They were meant for each other, they were of the same kind, fitted together like gloves, " That's nice and sweet, and maybe some people will have a relationship like that, but in most experiences it's not always going to be the "perfect life". Promises get broken, people change, and it becomes harder to make the right choice to continue loving one other. God puts you together for a purpose and he lets you go through "tough times" to help you to grow closer together. He doesn't put you there so you'll leave each other when it's tough.

Anyway,  I wrote this post to encourage others to really try to keep your distance in that area. I resist the temptation to read books that make me want to dream of perfect relationships. I know it's hard to resist the temptation to read such books, but think of it as one of the best things you can do for your future and your future partner. I don't want to develop "the dream life" of such things that will one day lead me to unhappiness in my courtship and or my marriage, so I'm going to say "no" now and stick to it for my own future. I challenge you to do the same. :D

A Peek Into Our Sister's Lives- Miss Jenna

I had the privilege to interview Jenna from Feminine Farmgirl over the weekend.  She is a pretty amazing young woman!  You should really get to know her because she is a great example of a Godly young woman!

Emily: Jenna, can you tell us a little bit about yourself, family, and current life on the farm?

Jenna: My name is Jenna, and I am a twin to the oldest of 8 children! We are all home schooled by our wonderful Christian parents; which I am very thankful for!! We live in a 150 year old farmhouse on 3 1/2 acres, where we have a horse, jersey cow and calf, chickens, goats, a dog, cats and pigs in the Spring/Summer (for 4H!!). I'm awaiting one of my goats to kid in a couple of days and we'll have 8 more goats kidding after that...in the Spring and Summer we (as a family) show our goats at sanctioned shows and then at the fair in August:) We really enjoy "the farm" and working on it together. Besides animals (!) I enjoy sewing, reading, crocheting, gardening (I grow weeds the best;) cooking, cleaning and caring for babies - I LOVE babies so much; what a miracle from Jesus!!!

Emily: I've seen some really pretty outfits that are stylishly feminine and modest that you’ve worn, what as helped you when your choosing your clothes?

Jenna: I tend to stay with layered shirts and skirts, though I like feminine blouses too! As a personal preference, I like my shirts to be slightly fitted but NOT tight, and the neckline to be around my collar bone...my skirts are below the knee and have to be easy to get around in (modestly!), because I am very active. I always try to evaluate my outfit by the following:

A. Is it modest?
B. Is it feminine?
C. Is it easy to get around in?

Emily: What does modesty and femininity mean to you and your family?

Jenna: Modesty and femininity is important  for my family and I because 1. we do not want to cause any brother to stumble, 2. We embrace our God given femininity but first and foremost it's a matter of the heart! Modesty needs to come from the heart because our goal is to please Jesus! Are you dressing to please the Lord, and glorify Him??
Emily: What about being a servant to your family? What has helped you in being content during this time in your life? (maidenhood, training to be a homemaker, etc.)

Jenna: Serving has always been something that I really enjoy - to bless someone, make their load easier and/or put a smile on their face is a blessing to me in return! As for being content in these years of "singleness" I find that focusing on the Lord, preparing for the future and BLESSING others helps me the most!

Emily: What has brought you and your family closer together?

Jenna: Doing things together! For us that usually means cleaning pens in the barn, preparing for a show or walking hogs together ~ We also love it when Daddy reads to us:) Just being together is wonderful too, whether it's for dinner or a movie night etc.

Emily: Can you share any advice for siblings to come closer?
Jenna: Invest and encourage. Read your siblings a book, bake cookies together, encourage them in not only their school, but everything they do! Thank them when they do something thoughtful. All in all, be the person in their lives that they know they can trust - you build that through investing!

Emily: And the last question, can you tell us briefly about what you feel on courtship vs. dating?
Jenna: To keep this brief: I believe in keeping my heart and body pure for my future husband! God has a perfect plan that HE will orchestrate in order for us to meet, and I don't need to "date" and get emotionally and physically involved just in order to test someone out to see if "they're the one". I have non-negotiables set in place right now, so that I "know" what I'm praying for before "Mr. Right" shows up! Some non-negotiables that have to do with loving the Lord, being the spiritual leader, protector, guide and not preventing children in any sort of way but to welcome them with open arms...Think about what you're looking for in a spouse and make a list of negotiables and non-negotiables!! Talk to your mom and dad about them - I know that my parents and I have had some wonderful conversations on what too look for:)

Jenna: Thank you Emily, for interviewing me! I hope that you got a glimpse of what my wonderfully busy life is like, and what the LORD has blessed me with!!

Emily: Thank you for letting me interview you! You have a hearts desire to be a feminine young lady for Christ and it's so inspiring. You also have such a wonderful, sweet, and encouraging spirit that just shines for the Lord. It really shows through your writing and I have been very blessed by all of your blogs. Thanks again!

Many Blessings,

Our Second Snow Storm of 2010

This is the second time we have seen snow in February and this time it was all snow and not ice.  Perfect packing snow for snow ball fights, sledding, and just plain and simple...a beautiful winter wonderland. This has been the first year in many years that I can remember having two big snow storms in the same month. We made sure to make good use of it before it melted.  We had 5-7 inches in some places around the yard.  I made sure to take plenty of pictures for you all...

I really do love winter, but I am very ready for some warm, sunny, weather.  Aren't you? :D

Have a wonderful week and think of warm thoughts! :D

I am going... To be home for most of the week, I'm going to Bible Study on Friday in the afternoon. :D

I am currently reading...Making Brother's and Sister's Best Friends.

I am hoping... That I will get a lot of my quilt finished this week.

On my mind...Hmmm...I don't have anything at the moment. :D

Noticing that...I need to finish some things before bed.

Pondering these words..."How beautiful then is modesty
and what a gem among virtues it is."
From the kitchen...Berry protein shake for breakfast, homemade soup for lunch, and roast, potatoes, and carrots for supper.

Around the house...Working on school and my quilt. :D

I'm Almost Myself Today...

I have felt a little bit better today, although I'm not 100% yet. I got up late this morning and worked on some schoolwork. This afternoon I've been helping out around the house as much as I can. We had to deal with "Mount Laundry" today,  so we all have pitched in to tackle that.    Katie has just finished making supper and I can hardly wait to eat.   I've also help tidy up the house and edited/ put pictures on CD's this afternoon. It feels so good to get some things accomplished! For the past two days I haven't done much of anything so it felt really good to do something today. Praise God! Maybe, I'll have time to read a book before bed tonight. :D

Mom is still doing well. She went to the doctor today for a follow up visit.   Her doctor continues to be pleased with her progress.   The tumor has shrunk to 9mm, down from 4 cm!   Please continue to pray for her, though as she has been having some difficulties with her stomach and bladder lately.   Please pray that she will feel better soon.

Trusting in Him,

Simple Women's Daybook- February 8th, 2010

For Today...February 8th, 2010

Outside my window... It's a very cold, winter afternoon! I haven't been outside today, but when someone opens the front door a huge blast of cold, bone chilling air hits anyone in it's way. I am begining to not like winter, but we have about 5 more weeks of it to deal with. I guess I better like it... :D

I am thinking...About how good God is to us. His love is so amazing!

I am thankful for... All my bloggy friends that I've met. :D

I am wearing... My blue jean skirt, red sweater, warm socks and a favorite pair of earrings.

I am remembering...The fun we had in the snow last week and the fun time we had decorating valentine cookies this weekend. Pictures soon!

I am going... To be home most of this week, I'm only going somewhere on Wednesday and Friday in the afternoon. Yes!

I am currently reading... The Bible and Making Brother's and Sister's Best Friends.
I am hoping... That I will feel much better in the morning and that I can sleep really good tonight. I've had

On my mind...I guess the normal answer for Monday. Ha! What I need to do for the rest of the week. :D

Noticing that... I need to read more of Making Brother's and Sister's Best Friends tonight in order for my to be on track with the rest of the readers. Click HERE for more details on how you can be a part of the next book.

Pondering these words... Everyone conforms to something, to a different belief, to an idea, but that is the beauty of being a different person. You have your own ideas and beliefs.
From the kitchen...Honestly, we haven't made much of anything today. Some of us haven't felt very well.

Around the house...Working on school, editing Practically Pink (what do you think about the new pages at the top of this page?), and trying to get our pictures off of this computer and on disks for viewing. :D

One of my favorite things~ Quilting over the weekend.

From my picture journal...

Just a sneak peak of the quilt I'm working on. That's all for now, maybe you can see the finished project in a couple of months. Hehe!
