Rainy Days...

 "Rain, rain, go away...
...come again some other day...
 ...we want to go outside today...
 ...so, come again some other day..."
We can't wait for Mr. Sunshine to come out again!  It's been raining here in North Carolina since Sunday afternoon!
We are also very ready to have a quiet house without the noise of rain pouring off the roof and hitting the windows.  :-)

Have a wonderful afternoon, ladies!

An Awesome Blog Party!

At Below the Plateau, Shannon is having a giveaway and a blog party!!  You don't want to miss out on this!!  She is giving away eight different items and they are all amazing.  I would absolutely love to win. ;-)

Anyway, to enter in this party and the lovely giveaway, one of the things you have to do is fill out these questions!!  Here we go!  :-)
1. Ring! Ring! You receive a phone call from a national sweepstakes organization saying that you have won a life-time supply of your favorite beverage!!  What would that drink be?

I think I would have to say Deer Park Water or some Tropicana Lemonade.  :-)

2. If you could live in a Jane Austen novel, which book would you pick?  What character would you be?

Well, I've taken the popular Jane Austen quiz several times and it always says I'm either Elinor Dashwood from Sense and Sensibility or Elisabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice and I think I'm definitely like Elinor.  She is practical, happy, quiet, loyal, but she still loves her family deeply and wants to help others before herself.  I would definitely live in Sense and Sensibility!  :-)
3. What is your theme song, that favorite song that absolutely matches you?

Here are are a few of my favorite songs because I don't really have "a absolutely favorite" song right now.

-"In Better Hands" - by Natalie Grant
-"Sweet, Sweet Sound" - by Sarah Reeves
- "Everyone to Know" - by Bethany Dillon
- "Praise You In This Storm" - by Casting Crowns

4. You are trapped on a deserted island. Your only supplies are the clothes you have on, and a box with five things in it. What are those five things?

{1. matches} {2. a knife} {3. a tent} {4. a big supply of various foods...} {5. flashlight}
5. Chocolate or Caramel?

I am definitely a chocolate kinda girl!  I love Dove, Hershey's, Reese Peanut Butter Cups, Snickers, and pretty much anything that includes some chocolate.  :-)

6. Vacation! If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I have a lot of different places that I would love to travel to someday in my life, but I would love to go to Ireland, England, Alaska, Bermuda, Paris, and The Bahamas.  They are all just so beautiful and I think it would be really hard to pick one if I had to.  I guess we'll see if I get to travel there one day.  I wonder if it's in the Lord's plan for me? :-)

7.  If forced to do one of the two, which would you do: sky diving or scuba diving? Why?

I think I would definitely do scuba diving over sky diving!  I don't mind being in the water, especially if I can breath at the same time, but falling in the sky doesn't sound very fun to me.

8. Favorite TV show, and why?  I like several different shows right now.  I like "Sue Thomas FBI", "Chuck", "19 Kids and Counting", and I also like "Curb Appeal-The Block" on HGTV.  I like lots of different variety, but I do like to make sure the show is decent or if there is something that we don't approve of in the show, then we just turn it to a different show for a few seconds and then change it back.  We love to record the show and then use the "fast forward" button too.  :-)

9. Are you a coffee and donuts sorta lady, or a tea and scones type of gal?
I would have to say coffee and donuts.  I love having donuts from Krispy Kreme and any type of coffee is good with me.  I really like the Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino at Starbucks.  Oh, it's so good! :-)

10.The time machine has finally been created, and you are the first to be able to use it! What era would you travel too?

I would travel to the mid 1700's in the Colonial era or the early 1800's in the Regency era.  :-)

11. What is the last movie you watched?  We watched Sarah's Choice last night on the GMC.  It's a really good movie that I would definitely recommend.  :-)

12. Ding-dong!!! Your favorite actor/singer/celebrity is at your front door! Who would it be?

I'm not really sure at the moment.  I would love to meet an actor, singer, or maybe someone from a TV show I watch.  I would be happy to meet someone like Chris Tomlin, Barlow Girl, etc.  :)

13. What was your absolute favorite toy as a baby?

I had several, but my favorite ones would have to be all my babydolls; Rebecca, Bitty Baby, Elisabeth, and Felicity and a few other ones.  I can't wait to share them with my girls one day (Lord willing).
14. What types of blogs do your like best? (examples: DIY, cooking, journal, ect.)

I love finding Christian bloggers who write about their family life, sewing projects, recipes, and photography.
15. What is your favorite Bible verse, your "life verse?"

I have a couple of favorites, but I really like Psalm 9:9-10..."The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!  :)

Fall Apron Swap...

{Photo from Google Images}

Have you noticed that aprons are really coming back in style?  Everywhere you look you see new vintage-style hostess/homemaker aprons.  I'm the type of girl that really likes aprons and the best part is, they are so easy to sew!
Since I've met so many lovely girls in the "blogging world" that love to sew and make different things, I thought of a little project for all of my blogging readers and anyone else that wants to participate.  I'm going to be hosting an apron swap! =)

How to Participate:

1.  Everyone that wants to participate must send me an email at practicallypink@gmail.com to let me know.   Please email me and include all your measurements, your favorite colors, your mailing address (for your swap partner), and a way to contact you (your email or blog address).  Also, please ask your parents for their permission before you sign up for this project if you are under 18 years old.

2.  When I receive all the entries from the girls that want to participate, then I will post your assigned apron swap partners for you make aprons for.

3.  Once you know who you're making your apron for then you can start shopping for fabric, finding a pattern, and getting all the materials together to start sewing your aprons.  You can do full or half aprons for your swap partner, but please make sure you do each others sizes and that you make the apron the colors that your partner likes.  Just make the aprons as simple or as detailed as you want.  Just make them stylish, fun, cute, and, very much like your swap partner.  **You can also buy an apron for your swap partner, if you don't know how to sew or if you don't have the time.  You just have to make sure that the apron is something that your swap partner would enjoy.  Also, if you know how to sew I would rather you make your apron. ** =)

4.  Another fun gesture would be to add a few little kitchen items (or a card) to your package.  For example; a wooden spoon, a cute set of potholders, a few of your favorite recipes, tea bags, or anything else that you might want to add.  Please don't add anything that will melt, harm, or ruin your apron, though.  Please take in consideration of how you would like to be treated if you were to receive the package.

*This isn't required to do in the apron swap, but it might be fun.  All that is required is a simple apron with one pocket.

5.  When you finish your aprons, then you can email me and I will send you your partner's mailing address for you to send your apron to them.   After each of you receive your apron, please send me a picture of it and I'll do a post with all the aprons and who made them, etc.  What does that sound like?  =)

{Photo from Google Images}

**The deadline for entering the apron swap is October 5th, 2010  and the deadline for the aprons to be finished is November 15th, 2010. **

So, would you like to participate in my first apron swap?  Any questions?  Please just contact me!

Have fun entering and please spread the word about it!  Have a blessed weekend ladies and thank you for reading Practically Pink. =)

Pumpkin Spice Bread- Recipe

Pumpkin Spice Bread

*Makes 2 loaves

Ingredients:
2 cups sugar
1 cup oil
3 eggs
2/3 cup water
2 cups pumpkin (or one, 14-ounce can)
1 cup chopped nuts, optional
3 cups flour
2 and 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon nutmeg
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 tablespoon baking powder

Instructions:

1. In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, oil, and eggs. Stir in water and pumpkin (and nuts if using).  In a medium mixing bowl, combine remaining ingredients, whisking to mix well.  Add to creamed mixture and beat until smooth.  Pour into two greased and floured 8x4-inch loaf pans. (You may use a different size pan, such as 9x5-inch, but loaves won't be as tall.)  Bake at 350 degrees for 90 minutes or until bread tests done. Cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then remove to wire racks and cover with a cloth until cool.

Now, because of my lovely friend's (Eden from Growing in Him) brilliant idea...I'm adding a little linky for you all to link up on.  If you have any fall recipes or if you try my Pumpkin Spice bread, please link your recipe on this MckLinky.  I would love to see what you fix during this season and I think we all like new recipes, right?  Enjoy your new recipe!

Lots of love,

Lovely Photo Wednesday-Pretty Yellow Mums

Lovely Photo - Wordless or Not-So-Wordless Wednesday at Aspire
Happy first day of Fall!  It feels like like forever ago since I posted.  I posted on Sunday, but I've been really busy since then so my days are running together.  I've also been in a little "blogging daze" and I'm sure you've all had that feeling before since you started your blogs.

I've made a little poll on the right sidebar for you all to vote on.   I'm trying to think of some other things I can post about and I'm thinking that since y'all are the people reading my blog, that maybe you all should vote on the posts that you like the most.  I hope to be posting "back to normal" again really soon, but when you don't know what to write about...then, you kind of have a problem. *wink*

So without further ado, I'm going to post my picture for this week's "Lovely Photo Wednesday."
I am so thankful for Autumn...

Autumn is such a gorgeous time of the year. The trees give us a spectacular show of color to enjoy before we are plunged into the long winter season.  Yes, the days do get shorter (and colder) but some of my favorite colors appear in this season.

We get to wear warm sweaters, wrap up in cozy blankets, go to the store and find a couple new clothes for the season, and reading books with warm tea to accompany you. Oh, and another one of my favorite things is that we get to bring out the "Pumpkin Pie" and "Apple Spice" candles... *happy sigh* =)

The farmers have a wonderful harvest and the benefit of reaping of what they have sown earlier in the year.   Beautiful sunsets and sunrises occur, cooler weather (It's 64 degrees right now in North Carolina), and all of baked goods we can start to make.

What are some of your favorite things about this new season?  Please share a little if you have a minute.  I would love to hear from you all.  :-)

Blessings,

Questions about Interviews?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello Ladies!
I have a few quick questions for you and it's really all up to you (my lovely readers) on what you decide.  I'm just wondering if you all would like for me to start interviewing different blogging ladies every month instead of every other month?  Would you read the interviews or do you like "A Peek into Our Sister's Lives" like it is already?  Please let me know if you have any requests, ideas, questions for the ladies that I will interview, topics, or any some ladies you would like to see interviewed.  Thank you all for your input!
Please leave a comment and let me know what you think and please don't be shy... :-)
Sewing Projects
I have a few different sewing projects that I'm working on (or that are waiting to be sewn) because I don't have the patterns or fabric at this time.  I did want to share my little list with you all, though.  I hope I will encourage you all to do a little sewing project soon.  :-)
First, I really want to make view D (the green skirt) out of some brown corduroy for the fall/ winter months. I love all of these skirts, so I think it will be well worth the money when I find my size pattern.
 Simplicity 2609
Second, I'm in the middle of making this book cover and it's really easy so far.  I love the idea and it's a great way to use old scraps that you don't have any use for.  You can click HERE for the tutorial.
~Photo from V and Co~
The next project is...I really want to make a winter skirt out of one of the top skirts on the pattern below.  I love having flowy skirts to wear instead of "stick straight" boring skirts.  They are especially cute when you have tall winter boots to go under them.  I can't wait to get my hands on this pattern at Hancock's.  I really hope they have it in stock and in my size.  :)
Lastly,  I keep seeing these cute camera strap covers online, but I haven't brought myself to buy one.  I finally decided that I was going to find out how these girls were making them and make one myself.  I haven't had the time (or fabric) to make one yet, but it's on my list to make.  Isn't it adorable?!  You can find the tutorial HERE.  :-)
~Photo by Tiffany Bird~
What do you think of my little sewing projects?  I also want to work on my quilt and my little projects for my Etsy shop, but I never can find the time.  I'm really going to try harder this month, but I guess we'll see how it goes... ;)
Have a wonderful weekend, ladies!  I'll be spending my weekend at home with my lovely mom and my sweet family.  Mom comes home tomorrow after she gets some blood platelets.   Thanks for all the prayers!  Katie, Andrew, and I have cleaned the house, planted some new yellow mums, cleaned up the yard, and decorated the house for fall this week.  We can't wait for her to come home!  It's been one week and 3 days since she went into the hospital, so she (and everyone else) will be very glad to be back to "a normal lifestyle" again.  Anyway, thanks again for your prayers and I'll be back soon!  :)
**IMPORTANT** Homeschool Get-Together THIS Afternoon
I have a quick announcement for you all.  Eden (from Growing In Him) has changed the time frame for the Skype get together she was going to have on Sunday afternoon.  Hurricane Igor is forecasted to make an almost-direct hit on Sunday afternoon-just when she had planned to host the get-together.  It's supposed to make a direct hit as a Category 2 {almost 3} hurricane, so since she had power issues the last time they had a hurricane that big we decided to change the time.  I'm sorry to give you such short notice. :)
Simple Woman's Daybook
For Today: September 13, 2010
Outside my window...It's a beautiful day here in NC!  The weather is almost perfect.  It's sunny, a little breezy, bright blue sky, and there are even some white fluffy clouds. :D
I am thinking...About what I need to do this week and the rest of this afternoon.
I am thankful for...The simple pleasures of life.
From the learning rooms...Algebra, Science, History, Writing, Reading, and a few more subjects.  I have to finish the rest of my school after this post.  I'm eating some lunch right now.
From the kitchen...Cinnamon rolls for breakfast, Mckmama's Texas Caviar for lunch, and leftovers for supper.
I am wearing...My blue jean skirt, pink t-shirt, and my silver dangle earrings.
I am creating...Some hats for the kids in Romania and crocheting my little baby blanket.
I am going...To be home for the first part of this week, but we will have a few places to go later in the week. :D
I am reading...My Bible and some required school books.
I am hoping and praying...That this week will be better then last week.  Also, that Mom will get better and she can come home on Wednesday.  She has been at the hospital since last Wednesday because of her white blood cell count...
I don't know if you know or not, but mom has lung cancer. She has never smoked a day in her life, but both of her parents did when she was little. She had some back pain in January of 2009 and we found out about her lung cancer.  She started an oral chemo to kill the cancer and thus it began this long journey for the whole family.  We started eating more healthy and trying not to eat sugar.  The cancer has shrunk a lot through the year, but we found out a few months ago that the oral chemo drug that she was taking wasn't fighting the cancer like it needed to, so she started the regular chemo about a week ago.  Her body has had a problem with this "strange thing" (the chemo) going through her body and it's made her blood count go down to 300 when it should be at 1,000.  She is now in the hospital and the doctors and nurses are giving her medicine to bring the blood cells up.  She is in the best place right now because if she were home then we couldn't help her very much.  She is very weak right now because of the blood count.
Please be praying for strength for the whole family, rest for all of us, and for God to work out all the details that we can't fix by ourselves. We are just resting in His arms right now and hope that He can bring mom's blood count up.  Thank you, everyone for praying for her.  It means so much to our family when you do. :D
I am hearing...Right now it's really quiet, we have some soft music playing in the background and Andrew is eating his lunch at the kitchen table.  It's peaceful and relaxing.
Around the house...Dishes need to be done and the rest of my school needs to be completed after I finish this post.
One of my favorite things...Everything about Fall (except for allergies). :D
A few plans for the rest of the week: School, working on laundry, cleaning the house, and I'm also planning on doing some more sewing.
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...
Helping Children in Romania
Growing in Him
While I was on my little blogging break I've started another sewing project.  I know, I know, you probably think I start new ones and never finish any of the old ones.  You almost have that correct, although I do finish projects.  I'm just very slow with them sometimes.   Anyway, I’m sewing some little baby hats for an orphanage located in Romania.   My sweet friend, Eden (from Growing in Him), has organized a project for bloggers that love to knit, crochet, and she just recently extended it to sewing as well.  You can learn more about it at her blog HERE.  We’re making winter hats for 100 children at the orphanage.  It’s just such a neat project to use our talents (that the Lord has given us) to bless these little children and help them stay warm this winter.
Would you like to join us and help keep these children?  Go over to her blog and let her know you would like to help.  :-)
Have a wonderful day! :-)
Remembering 9/11
On September 11, 2001, America went under attack by terrorists.  They took aim to the World Trade Centers, Pentagon, and (if it weren't for the bravery of those on Flight 93) they could have hit the White House.  When they attacked our country, they made war on our land.  They instantly made 9/11 a day no one will every forget that lives in America.
When 9/11 happened 9 years ago, I was about 8 years old and I still remember working on my schoolwork when one of our good friends (and then my dad) called my mom.  I didn't understand why mom was so upset when she pressed "End" on those calls.  She quickly went into our living room and turned on the TV.  Katie, Andrew and I ran inside from our schoolroom to see what was going on.  We turned the TV to the news channel and saw all of those awful pictures of the the first tower being hit, we thought it was an accident.  It didn't make any sense to me, Katie, or Andrew at the time...  We were confused, sad, and felt like someone had run us over with a 18 wheeler.  We didn't have any relatives or friends in the towers, but we felt bad for all of those families, friends, and co-workers that did have people they loved in the World Trade Center.
All I knew was that after the first tower was hit, we almost scoffed the whole event off...until the second plane. That was when reality set in. We had originally thought it was an 'accident'.  But with two plans crashing into the Trade Centers, it was obvious we were under attack-even I knew that! The day after I asked my mom why the 'evil people' would want to harm our country. She told me what she knew and it made me sad and very angry. To this day, 9/11 remains a surreal piece of history that feels as real and emotional as the day it happened.
So today is a day many people lost loved ones and even their own lives.  Do you remember or have you forgotten?  What was going through your mind when the towers got hit?  Did it every cross your mind that your American neighbors were going through a living nightmare while you sat comfortably at your TV watching it happen live?  Have you forgotten?
September 11, 2001. Do not forget this date. Do not forget those lives that were lost, those brave and heroic forces that gave their lives for our men and women. Do not every forget what happened today 9 years ago! Once we forget, we loose our patriotism, our liberty, independence and spirit.  Have you forgotten about 9/ 11?
God Bless,
