Some of you already know about this, but mom had a port put in back in November of last year. The stitches around the port started to scab, but it just hasn’t wanted to heal completely. She left it alone, but the scab fell off the about a week and a half ago and it left a little hole in her chest. Mom went back to the doctor on January 22nd for a check up visit with her doctor and while she was there, they tried to steri-strip the hole back together. Although, by the next day, that had already come off. She went back to the doctor the next afternoon and the doctor put her on an antibiotic to make it heal faster, but she had to stop taking that antibiotic because it was causing too much stomach/gall bladder distress. She began a different antibiotic on Sunday and so far it hasn’t bothered her stomach or gall bladder that much. Since there is still some infection at the site and it’s near her port, we’re asking for prayer that the infection will clear up and not get under the port. If it doesn't clear up and goes under the port, she will have to have the port removed and start the process of healing all over again.
She is scheduled for maintenance chemo on January 31st, but that might have to get postponed if the hole doesn't close up before then. They may decide to go ahead and have the port removed, which will put off her chemo session. We’ve been planning a surprise party for my grandma’s 80th birthday on February 13th and if mom’s chemo is postponed, she won't be able to participate in that activity because she will be dealing with the chemo effects that week. Mom’s older sisters are also coming in that weekend and we’ve really been looking forward to it for awhile now.
We are resting in God’s plan for the situation, but we would really appreciate any prayers. So, please pray that the infection clears up and her port hole will continue to close up before the 31st of this month.
Thank you all so much for your faithful prayer support! :)
In Christ,
Emily

ReplyDeleteEmily,
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'm taking a blogging break, I am still taking time every now and then to catch up on my favorite blogs, so I just happened to see your post and clicked on over. :)
I will definitely keep your mom in my prayers. I wonder if her doctor would be willing to refer her to a wound care clinic to help heal this area. I am sure you have similar clinics in your area as the one where I work. We have seen patients with this type of problem before. Depending on how deep it is, she might need a wound vac or other advanced wound therapy that would help it heal faster.
Just a thought..maybe she can check and see if there is a clinic nearby and could get a referral?
Wow. I'll definitely be keeping your mom in my prayers. My little brother had cancer a few year ago, so I know what a difficult thing it is to see someone you love suffer. May the Great Physician give your mom healing and peace! Keep us updated!

ReplyDeleteI would like to suggest colloidal silver for your moms wound... I used it in place of an antibiotic after having a very bad reaction to it. It healed my infection you can take it orally and spray it onto the wound. you can go on utube and find a lot of testimonys about the benefits... it is worth checking out.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless you during this trial
