We Survived the Storm!

We did indeed survive Hurricane Irene and I am very thankful to report that we have no damage to our house and property.  Your prayers were so greatly appreciated.  It was a really scary storm, ya’ll.  I thought it would never end.

It started coming in on Friday night; I hardly slept at all because the wind was so bad.  It whipped around the house for hours and hours and didn’t stop until late Saturday night.  It was an extremely long night and Saturday was even worse because we lost power that morning around 7:00… (We didn’t get our power back on until last night) 317561_272295876114037_100000008795232_1209279_222555_nThat was one of the longest days of my life as we all sat in the living room together and rode out the storm.  We listened to the radio trying to hear the latest weather reports, read books, watched movies on the laptops, took naps, texted other friends and checked on what was going on in their neck of the woods during the storm, and went through the cabinets trying to find things to eat that we didn’t have to heat up or cook on the stove.  I do not want to have to do that again for a long while.

We are very fortunate to have our power restored so quickly because I have several friends that still do not have power.  They have been told that it will be much later in the week until it’s back too.  Also, Moriah called me during the hurricane and told me that a huge pine tree had fallen on their house and that they had a big hole in their bonus room upstairs.  Sarah-Anne also had a tree fall in her yard, but it didn’t fall on their house.  Thankfully. =)297503_272295969447361_100000008795232_1209282_127423_nWe only had a couple of big tree limbs fall, lots of leaves and little branches around the yard, and one of our neighbors trees fell just inches away from my bedroom window…

The mess that Irene left behind around Eastern North Carolina is absolutely incredible!  It’s going to take months to get everything back to “normal” again.  317457_272296202780671_100000008795232_1209286_2800642_nWe took a drive around our town yesterday morning and I took a few pictures for all of you to see…311511_272297529447205_100000008795232_1209319_2487525_n

299425_272296816113943_100000008795232_1209300_5820413_n (1)We have a lot of big trees and power lines down all around town. 294650_272296726113952_100000008795232_1209298_967982_nAnd we also have quite a bit of flooding in the surrounding counties…312132_272296876113937_100000008795232_1209302_2661171_n

310779_272296439447314_100000008795232_1209292_7271253_nPlease be praying that we can clean up all of this damage quickly, that the power will be restored, and that everyone will work together as a team, so we can get Eastern North Carolina back in order again sooner than later.  Thank you again for all of your prayers!

  2. I'm glad you survived. It seems a frightening experience. Here in Holland we have other types of storms. When I look at the pictures I'm glad I do not live in your country. But every country has its own troubles. I have prayed for you.God helps and bless your land and family.

  3. So scary. Glad your family was safe. Here in PA, we got a lot of flooding in the city. We had a tree fall in the backyard as well and lost power for 12 hours, but there are so many others that weren't so lucky and praying for quick recovery for everyone in all the affected states.
